Experience design and concept development for Futureality, a series of workshops and an exhibition for the graduation show of the MA Innovation Management course at Central Saint Martins.
Futureality
MA Innovation Management 2016-2018
It was important for us as innovation managers not to present our work as a finished product but to use it to engage in conversation. We designed a series of workshops around the theme “Futureality: Shaping tomorrow today” and invited professionals from our respective fields of interest to come participate.
From the research of 22 individuals, we identified 4 key themes which shaped the content of our workshops - Ethical Futures, Experiential Futures, Resilient Futures and Digital Futures.
When we observe the world, what do we see?
The future we shape will become our reality. We are living in an era of rapid change as prevailing sustainability, economic uncertainty and artificial intelligence debates have thrown traditional professions into discordance. As innovation managers, we explore alternatives to today’s innovation processes by asking critical questions and experimenting to find solutions.
We used this framework to develop the theme of our show. We began by documenting all of the key words and themes of our individual research projects so that we could cluster and identify key narratives.
Experience Design
As part of the experience design team, we focused on how the workshop space would be experienced. We collected case studies of spaces of that engaged in sensory stimulation and exhibitions that promoted engagement with the content. As our degree show would be a weeklong exhibition with workshops scheduled daily, we had to create a space that was easy to transform and served multiple purposes.

Resilient Futures
My research aligned with the resilient futures theme. We invited professionals from four different industries - food, fashion, hospitality and electronics - to participate in our workshop on how consumer behaviours can become more eco-friendly by 2030. Our workshop offered an opportunity to ideate, test and present potential solutions while learning from each other’s experiences.
